Introduction to the Survey on Love, Sex and Life:

A survey with such a title might raise a few eyebrows. Indeed, it has. We piloted it on a few students at a local university and students giggled when they heard its title. Some shook their heads vehemently, saying that they led normal lives and so could not do this survey! However, upon doing the survey, respondents realized that the sexuality aspect of this survey was a minor detail; the crux of the survey rested on questions that asked about their personal identity, their satisfaction with life, with themselves, and the frequency and level of interaction with friends and family.

Unlike various other surveys, this one aims to get a balanced picture of the young person in Singapore by looking at his social, emotional and psychological make-up. These factors might determine their attitude towards sex, love and life. We will find out how, and to what extent. The findings are crucial. They will help researchers, educators and parents at an international conference called "Education in Sex, Love and Life" held at the end of the year (See www.edicongress.com for more details) understand how to engage young people on this topic.

The Fieldwork:

Our fieldwork started in early August. The aim is to survey 450 university students from the three main campuses by early September. This is no mean feat. To add to the pressure, the fieldwork team is a lean one, comprising of three spirited and spunky volunteers from NUS-Cassandra Theodora Gunawan, 2nd year computing student, Therese Kwan, 2nd year Science student, and Maria I. Setiadi, a 2nd year music student. Thanks to their drive and initiative, we've reached a good number of students. But still more students are needed to respond!

Do the survey!

Because of the good that will come from this survey, we urge Singaporean university students to help us do the survey; or spread the word if you have done it! Please download the survey and send it to us at lslsurvey@familyes.org.sg. Note that all information will be kept strictly confidential.
