Johor Bahru
Service Project 2007
The Family Enrichment Society (FES) is pleased
to inform you of our new upcoming Overseas Service Project
this year in Johor Bahru. It will be in the districts of
Kota Tinggi and Ulu Tiram on the 29 June - 8 July 2007.
In December 2006, both Singapore and Malaysia were hit
by unprecedented heavy rainfall. Many areas were subsequently
hit by floods. The district in Kota Tinggi in particular
was the worst-hit, with flood levels rising up to 1½
storeys. Roads to the area were cut off due to mudslides,
and homes were washed away. Most of the affected people
come from poor families that were unprepared for such a
natural disaster. Now, 3 months on, the water has dried
up, and Kota Tinggi is no longer in the public limelight.
However, the relief-work still has to go on as Kota Tinggi
tries to recover.
In this project, we will be working with the locals to
undertake some repair works and educational activities with
young people.
