The
Philippines Outreach project, entitled "Mabuhay Service
Project 2006", aims to participate in a community building
project and to conduct classes on basic life practices,
life skills, and values for young women and children. The
proposed dates are from 9th up to 19th of December, 2006.
Our wish to participate in a community building project
was inspired by the success of our service project in Manila
back in 2000.
For this year, we are liaising with the contacts in the
Philippine to be able to visit the poor area of Cebu. Cebu
is not only one of the historical places in the Philippines
but also one of the highly developed places in terms of
infrastructure and business establishments. It provides
the region with opportunities for employment and therefore
the population is growing tremendously and is in need of
support in terms of housing facilities and building projects.
It could also help us in our search for meaning in our lives,
providing us with a wider and unique perspective, social
and cultural awareness, teamwork and the concept of interdependence
like carefully woven silk threads in a beautiful silk cloth.
Another important aspect of this project is its aim to provide
practical education to young women covering topics such
as basic life skills, practices and values. Women play a
vital role in any community. With women as a source of light
in each family, more emphasis has been given to her task
not only in the household level, but also in the professional
and spiritual level. We believe that this dream can be realized
through our ../common efforts such as in endeavors like
this.
